Benefits of Shopping the Easter Clearance Deals

Head to your favorite stores the day after to get some great Easter clearance deals. The bargains are so good that I know one mom who puts off the Easter baskets and the egg hunts until after Easter, just so she doesn’t have to pay full price. Smart lady. Excuse Me, Are These Melons Ripe? Grocery Shopping with my Husband

Flirting with your husband in the produce department while grocery shopping may not seem like your idea of a date, but when you are saving toward a healthy emergency fund, a discussion about fruit may be some of the sweetest words you’ll hear. My husband and I had gotten in the habit of a monthly lunch date, on a Tuesday or Wednesday, when all three children are in school. We only have about a two-hour window of time alone, but this was usually sufficient to have a nice lunch and catch up without being interrupted by little people needing this … Continue reading

How to Encourage Children to Give Back

Each child should learn the importance of giving back, a lesson that will stay with him or her for a lifetime. Not to take away from the importance of this lesson for our children in the future, encouraging children to give back also has the added bonus of eliminating much of the “gimmies” for us parents, right here and now. Did you know that kids are instinctual givers? They are proud to give of themselves, … Continue reading

Protecting Your Children from Identity Thieves

Identity theft doesn’t just hit adults. Children are especially vulnerable to it, since they have clean credit and financial histories and no background information or signature on file. This makes it easy for thieves to take out credit and loans in a child’s name. In most cases, the victims and their families never even realize that there is an issue until the child becomes an adult and pursues his or her own credit and financial footprint. Then it becomes obvious: years of bad debt, defaulted loans and possibly a criminal background. The web of identity-related issues can be ponderous and … Continue reading

Shopping with Grandma and Grandpa Part IV

After selecting several articles of clothing for my daughter, my mother-in-law and moved on to looking for some clothes for my son, which was surprisingly more difficult than shopping for my daughter. Since jeans were a must, I set my attention on scouring up all the different styles of jeans. The perfect pair was a straight fit jean in a darker wash with a dragon embroidered on the left pant leg (my son is currently fascinated with dragons). Much to my dismay they did not appear to have his size, but the saleswoman was able to track down a pair … Continue reading

Shopping with Grandma and Grandpa Part III

While my daughter, mother-in-law, and I were picking out shoes for my daughter, grandpa and my son were busy finding some dress pants for daddy; grandpa felt that he (daddy) must be in need of some new “khaki” pants to wear to work (my husband typically wears jeans to work without issue). Still grandpa wanted to buy my husband some new pants so he and my son had the sales woman collecting many different options while my son apparently entertained her with his antics. After a quick nursing break for my daughter and after grandma touched base with grandpa; my … Continue reading

Shopping with Grandma and Grandpa Part II

On our shopping excursion with my children’s grandma and grandpa, I selected several pairs of shoes to be retrieved in two different sizes for my son to try. Once I had the first pair of shoes fitted, I asked him to walk around to see how they felt. He walked around and found a play area complete with a large train set. The shoes felt fine to him and he was more interested in playing with trains than trying on shoes; no surprise there! I coaxed him back and quickly tried four more pairs of shoes on him and hastily … Continue reading
