Our 2nd Placement Meeting

With the first placement meeting we had pictures of the brother and sister that we were put in for, we had their names, we knew their history and we even started buying clothes for these two children that we just knew were going to be ours. We had been showing everyone we knew the pictures of the two kids that we would soon call our own. The call that came after that first placement meeting brought such sadness to my husband and me, the unimaginable loss that we experienced where they decided to give the brother and sister we were … Continue reading

First Match Meeting

We went to our very first match meeting on Friday. This was for match #2. We met with the adoption recruiter, along with the child’s case worker and guardian. We also heard briefly from the girl’s current foster mom, who called in for the meeting. I have to admit, I am really hopeful. I just love this girl already, and I think it’s because she is a lot like me. She has been through a lot, she has trust issues, she is scared to get close to anyone, and all that is understandable. But, she is also motivated and determined, … Continue reading

Match Meeting this Friday!

A couple of weeks ago I emailed the adoption recruiter requesting more information about the third child we were matched with. I hadn’t heard back from her. Around that same time I left a voice mail for the case worker for the second match, and I hadn’t heard back from her either. I was starting to wonder if I had done something to make them stop calling… which, in retrospect seems pretty silly… but I had been leaving messages and emailing for how long with no response?! Well, I finally heard back from her. She called to let us know … Continue reading

The Day we Met Our Sons

So we drove the four hours down on Friday night to go meet our new sons. Boy, it sounds so weird to say that we are going to meet our sons. We have two empty car seats in the car and a stuffed animal for each of the boys. We stayed the night in town where our sons are from we were so nervous I do not think we slept at all. When I wake up in the morning I am going to meet my sons! What if they don’t like me? When Saturday morning comes we got up, ate … Continue reading

Fergie’s Dream Wedding Comes True

Fergie, aka Stacey Ferguson, always dreamed of a white wedding and last night her fantasy became reality when she married actor Josh Duhamel surrounded by thousands of white blossoms. According to reports, the 33-year-old Black Eyed Peas singer exchanged vows with her 36-year-old hunk of a boyfriend under magnolia trees filled with thousands of white roses at an exclusive Malibu estate. PEOPLE magazine reports that Fergie donned a form fitting Dolce & Gabbana gown and carried a bouquet of white flowers studded with crystals. Meanwhile, ten bridesmaids were decked out in midnight black gowns. The couple reportedly exchanged rings engraved … Continue reading

A Man with a Plan?

Monday night I had my end of the season tournament for the volleyball league I play on. It can be a long night, depending on how many teams are playing and how many points each match goes to. However, I enjoy it because I get to catch up with friends. Such as my friend Chris. We met at the beginning of last summer on Tuesday nights, when a bunch of us get together and play sand volleyball in one of the local parks with a group called Team Green. Chris and I hit it off right away. He’s easy to … Continue reading

Test Results, Cold Oatmeal, and the Mysterious Nurse Diane

Several days ago, my son’s pediatric nephrologist phoned with the results of his kidney biopsy. The phone call was one day late. One day is practically eternity. First, let me say that prior to our leaving the hospital, I asked this doctor when we would be informed of the results. Her reply: “Possibly Monday, but by Wednesday at the latest.” To my experienced ears, that meant Wednesday at the earliest. I was right. Wednesday came, and it was nearly noon and we still hadn’t heard a word. Now, just to give you some background, we were waiting to hear what … Continue reading

Dear Heather, I Was Wondering …

Last week, I mentioned this new feature in the fitness blog addressing the questions from readers. We’re making the countdown towards Christmas and some of our questions this week were from readers about shopping for fitness gifts and ideas this holiday season. The Gift for Personal Training Dear Heather, I’ve been reading some of your articles on personal training. My wife is always talking about getting back into shape, but she’s always getting distracted or delayed. We have three kids and I know that it’s hard on her, I try to be supportive, but I am not good at it. … Continue reading
