Imaginary Birthmother's Letter, Part Threeby Pam Connell | More from this Blogger 07 Sep 2007 02:42 PM This is the continuation of a letter I imagined a birthmother might write. The last two blogs contain the first two parts. Again, this is my imagination and is not based on any birthmother that I know. The letter continues: When my friends came home they took me to the hospital. You were born in a tiny room. A doctor and nurse were there when you were born. The doctor made sure you were breathing all right, and then he took you to the nursery, where you stayed in the incubator because you were so tiny. The nurse could tell I was upset. I told her I didn't think my friends had room for me and a baby, and that I didn't have a job. It would be even harder for me to go to work since I didn't know who would take care of my baby while I was working! I was really anxious about keeping you well-fed and warm, especially since you were so tiny. The nurse called a woman who worked for an adoption agency. Her name was Mrs. Lee. She came to see me in the hospital. She prayed with me and told me that her agency helped find good homes and parents for babies whose birthmothers couldn't take care of them. She said they would also try to help me get food and a place to stay if I wanted to try to take care of you myself. But she and I both knew that it would be hard for me to get a job and take care of you. I also wanted you to have a daddy. In my country sometimes other kids tease kids who don't have a daddy. Also, in this country people show very important papers when they apply to schools or jobs. Children get their papers from their fathers. Since your father wasn't with me anymore, you would have no papers. I was afraid you wouldn't be able to go to good schools. I wanted you to go to a good school, because you looked like a very smart baby, even when you were in the hospital. You had the most beautiful eyes I'd ever seen, and you hardly ever cried.
