Sandra Bullock’s Adoption Finalized

I love Sandra Bullock as an actress. Her movies are outstanding and she finally achieved well-deserved recognition with an Academy Award for The Blind Side. The first movie where she caught my attention was Demolition Man. That is an awful movie. Her career obviously survived. My very favorite Sandra Bullock movies are Miss Congeniality and Two Weeks’ Notice. Practical Magic has just recently become a must-see Sandra Bullock movie. I finally saw Hope Floats and While You Were Sleeping too. I have yet to watch the award-winning The Blind Side. Like many people who tend to follow celebrities through movies, … Continue reading

Lohan’s Divorce Finalized, Winehouse Postpones Tour, and Uncle Kracker Arrested

Lohan’s Divorce Finalized Thankfully, for the sake of their children at least, the Lohans have finally settled their long drawn out divorce and custody dispute. Aside from Lindsay and her 19-year-old brother Michael, they also have 13-year-old Alaina and 10-year-old Dakota. The Lohans were about to settle on an agreement in 2005, but that fell through when Michael was sent to prison for drunk driving. Despite all the fighting and arguing over the years, state Supreme Court Justice Robert A. Ross told Michael and Dina Lohan “You have both demonstrated to me extraordinarily good judgment in resolving this matter as … Continue reading

Finally Finalized

When starting out our adoption journey, my husband and I found the waiting to be difficult. One moment we needed to submit documentation right away to be processed, then in another moment, we would find our selves waiting wondering if we were forgotten. We believed once we had our child in our home, the waiting for finalization wouldn’t be hard. When our first son was placed in our home, I can’t explain the joy we felt in becoming parents! We had waited 19 months from the day of our first orientation class, for the placement of our son. There was … Continue reading

Kids of Same-Sex Parents Benefit From Supreme Court Ruling

On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court of the United States revealed their decision on the same-sex marriage case that had reached their court. The case was called Obergefell v Hodges. In short, the Justices of the Supreme Court ruled that marriage equality is the law of the land. Kids of same-sex parents benefit from this decision in so many important ways. The Supreme Court, in a 5-4 vote, ruled that the Fourteenth Amendment requires states to license marriage between two people of the same sex. They also ruled the the Fourteenth Amendment requires states to recognize a same sex … Continue reading

Open, Semi-Open or Closed Adoption part 2

If you are considering placing your unborn child up for adoption or you’re considering adoption I hope that you read my last entry. If you did you will realize that both the adoptive and birth families have decisions to consider. The decision to participate in an open, semi-open or a closed adoption are decisions that both parties need to decide on. The first part of thinking about the decision is to consider how comfortable you are with sharing your child’s life with another person who is responsible for your child. I can see it from a few different positions. As … Continue reading

Adoption in the News this Week: from ER to Madonna to the Hague

Adoption has certainly been in the media this week. As my fellow blogger Michelle has noted in the popular culture blog, Madonna’s petition to adopt a second child from Malawi was denied by a judge in Malawian court. Madonna, who has said she plans to appeal, left the country Sunday without three-year-old Chifundo “Mercy” James, the child she had planned to make her daughter. The judge said she fears that waiving the country’s residency requirements for adoptive parents would open the door to traffickers. Other possible reasons for the different outcome in this case from Madonna’s previous adoption are being … Continue reading

Madonna’s Adoption DENIED!

I guess money and fame can’t get you everything in life. It’s a lesson that apparently came as a HUGE shock to Madonna today after a judge declined her adoption request. According to reports, a residency requirement in Malawi has prevented the Material Girl from flying back to New York with the 3-year-old girl, who she wanted to adopt as her own. Reports say the residency requirement for prospective parents is 18 to 24 months in Malawi. Madonna has homes in New York and London, but does not have a residence in Malawi despite the fact that she adopted her … Continue reading

New and Old Couples: Jennifer Aniston, John Mayer, Shanna Moakler, and Gerard Butler

Apparently Jennifer Aniston thinks some men deserve a second chance. She and John Mayer, after months of secrecy, were seen together in public. But, the two split in August 2008. While Jen remained mum after the breakup, Mayer said there was “no lying, there’s no cheating, there’s no nothing,” adding that Aniston was the “smartest, most sophisticated person I think I have ever met.” (This photo is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 License) Last weekend, the two were seen dining at Il Mulino in New York City after attending a Ray LaMontagne concert together in Boston. A source … Continue reading

Madonna Making Divorce Official

If you believe British newspapers then Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s marriage is over. Sure, we’ve heard this allegation dozens of times in the last six months, but according to Britain’s The Sun the Material Girl and her British movie director husband are done with each other and are finally ready to make their split public… and official. The Daily Mail is reporting that a joint statement from the couple addressing the divorce will be released to the media “imminently.” The Sun is reporting that Madonna wants the divorce finalized before the eighth anniversary of their fairytale Scottish wedding on December … Continue reading

What is Adoption Loss?

We all know of miscarriage, or pregnancy loss. “Adoption loss” is the bereavement felt when an expected adoption does not occur. Although less than one-tenth of a percent of finalized adoptions are contested each year, parents are often heavily invested emotionally before finalization or before placement. Often they have been meeting with birthparents for several months. They may have seen the baby via ultrasound, chosen a name for the baby, shared the news with their families, prepared the baby’s room, and bought clothing specific to the gender of the expected child. Some birth parents even invite the adoptive parents to … Continue reading
