Adoption Storyline on "ER"

Once a regular watcher of the NBC drama ER, I've gradually cut off almost all television watching. But I may have a reason to start watching ER again-purely for professional reasons, of course. No, I'm not going to medical school. ER is in the middle of an adoption storyline.

Lifetime Movie about Foster Care airs Saturday

Tomorrow night (Saturday February 28), the cable channel Lifetime will air an original movie about the foster care system, and more specifically about the dilemma of one teen, raised in foster care (and sometimes abused there), about to turn 18 and "age out" of the system.

This is the last in a series of blogs dealing with adoption in the popular, still-airing-in-reruns show Little House on the Prairie. In season nine's two-part opener, "Times are Changing", Almanzo's brother dies. Their niece Jenny will now live with them.

It must be the phenomenon that once something is close to you, you see it everywhere. My daughters and I find adoption issues cropping up everywhere, even in books and shows that aren't supposed to be about adoption at all.

Like Why Was I Adopted, Being Adopted is a children's book from the 1970s (and has black-and-white photos that look it). However, kids are always fascinated by looking at photos of real people, and this is a photo essay book, with large photos on every spread.
