Beating the Odds

Divorce has a wide array of effects on children. They are certainly faced with more hardships than your average child in a two parent home and have had to overcome things in their young life that they never should have had to endure. It can be difficult at times and affects all children differently. We’ve all heard the typical stereotypes of children from these broken homes. They don’t do as well in school, they are more likely to have behavior problems, they may struggle with their future relationships, and they are more likely to end up in jail. As a … Continue reading

Kansas Governor and Insurance Commissioner at Odds

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback wants to wait until after the upcoming Presidential election before setting up his state’s health insurance exchange. Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger wants her state to have an insurance exchange. The two are clearly at odds over how to deal with the Supreme Court’s decision. I am starting to see a pattern here. Recently, the Governor of Nebraska, Dave Heineman, (who is a Republican), decided to wait and see how the 2012 Presidential election turns out before complying with the Affordable Care Act. He does not want to work on creating a state health insurance exchange … Continue reading

Exercising Against All Odds Part II

Exercising Against All Odds Part II After a Greek yogurt (for me) and good nursing session, my baby girl will usually sit quietly in her bouncy seat. She will watch me exercise until she falls asleep. I can usually get almost through my fifty minute workout before every one else wakes up. That is the most ideal situation but sometimes waking up early is not possible especially after going to bed late and having to get up during the night to feed and/or soothe children. When waking up early does not happen, I make a breakfast of local farm fresh … Continue reading

Exercising Against All Odds Part I

When I first started on the road to body shape and weight recovery after my daughter’s birth, I knew that there would be challenges along the way. If exercising were not hard enough on its own merit, try adding a couple of kids to the mix and the challenges will increase almost exponentially. There are a few things I have discovered along my road to fitness recovery that has helped to break down the obstacles to post partum exercise. First is the resolve to get fit. Without the commitment to a workout routine, it will be very difficult to find … Continue reading

At Odds: Teachers and Homeschooling Parents

Homeschooling parents and teachers are often pitted against one another either by society or by the individuals themselves. Many teachers take offense that a parent could possibly think she could teach her children better at home. Many homeschoolers take offense that teachers feel they are not qualified to teach their children at home. Let’s cut through the thick fog and put an end to individual homeschooling parents and individual teachers fighting over who has the right to education young minds. Does a degree or the one who gave birth have the right to educate a child? Homeschooling is legal in … Continue reading

New Weight Loss Blogger Hopes to Change Her Odds

One in eight women will get breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. That is a scary statistic in and of itself. As a result, I have become passionate about what is going into my body and maintaining optimal health. Teen Siblings at Odds

I had two younger brothers who always seemed to be at war against one another. Once they hit their teen years, it was like they couldn’t stand to be in the same room. As their sibling, it was also clear to me that they couldn’t stand to be apart from each other either. There were inside jokes, secrets, rivalry, and sometimes even blood. Yes, I witnessed sibling rivalry at it’s finest. Now that I have my own teens I am witnessing sibling rivalry from a different point of view. With an older brother, younger sister combination I have learned that … Continue reading

Homeschool Legal Defense Association Stands against Obama

There has been a buzz on the internet lately about Obama and The Home School Legal Defense Association, but it has nothing to do with an endorsement. It seems that in an effort to reach your Evangelical Christians, Obama’s campaign is attempting to launch a program call Joshua Generation Project. The purpose of this project is to reach young people on poverty, Darfur, climate, and war. This campaign will never make it public, or at least in its current incarnation as The Homeschool Legal Defense has accused them of infringing on their group “Generation Joshua” that works with Christian youth … Continue reading
